Mary Kate O’Connell has more than 10 years of experience in business immigration law. As an attorney since 2021, she has handled a broad range of immigrant and nonimmigrant visa matters for employers of all sizes in the education, hospitality, nonprofit, logistics, technology, e-commerce and finance sectors. She works closely with clients to navigate complex immigration processes, and she develops tailored solutions that align with clients’ business needs and long-term objectives. Before becoming an attorney, Mary Kate was a business immigration paralegal for six years including while she was in law school.
Prior to joining Trow & Rahal, Mary Kate practiced at a large multinational immigration law firm, where she gained hands-on experience preparing and managing H-1B, L-1, J-1, TN, E-3, E-2, O-1, O-2, EB-1, NIW, PERM, K-1, family based green cases, as well as appeals and responses to Requests for Evidence. She also advised corporate clients on how to adapt to evolving immigration policies and supported global mobility teams in maintaining a competitive edge through effective immigration strategies.
Mary Kate teaches a course on Business Immigration Law at American University’s Washington College of Law. She earned her J.D. from the Washington College of Law in 2021 and is a member of the D.C. bar association, the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), and the Women’s Bar Association (WBA). She also provides pro bono legal assistance through HIAS’ Afghan Assistance Project and AILA’s Military Assistance Program.
