Trow & Rahal has provided immigration legal services, primarily on a pro bono basis, to the Government in Exile of Burma and the Burmese community in the Washington DC since the mid 1990’s when we volunteered to take on the asylum cases of four of the members of the government in exile who had been democratically elected to parliament in 1990. The military ruling party at the time did not recognize the election and instituted an oppressive military rule which remains today.

The Members of Parliament have formed the National Coalition Union of Burma (NCGUB) in the U.S. as its organization through which it continues to fight for democracy in Burma. Their leader, elected General Secretary Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, won the Nobel Peace prize in 1991 and remains under house arrest in Burma today. Trow & Rahal is honored to be able to assist the NCGUB and its community in the United States. For its work on the four asylum cases, the firm won the Outstanding Achievement Award for Asylum and Refugee Rights from the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs n June 1995. Trow & Rahal proudly supports The Nation’s Triathlon and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. On Saturday, September 11, 2010 we volunteered at the registration and packet pick-up station to pass out T-shirts to the athletes. Click here to read more about the organization and the 2010 race.

Each year we sponsor an organization called Fins Wheels Feet, a non-profit, triathlon race directing company that brings a great event, The Virginia Spring Triathlon, to the Northern Virginia region. Since 2004, Trow & Rahal has donated water bottles or swim caps to the race. The race makes a donation each year go to a local charity, which recently has been the Special Olympics Virginia.
